Working on your Summer Camp application these holidays? Here are 12 Handy Hints!

HANDY HINTS FOR YOUR CAMP COUNSELORS USA APPLICATION!

  1. Remember this is a job application, so use correct spelling, grammar, punctuation and even capital letters at the start of sentences.
  2. This is a detailed application and will take some time to fully complete. Remember that you can save what you have done and come back at any time to finish it.
  3. Don’t use slang or ‘text message’ style grammar, and only use the English language.
  4. Prior to submitting your application to CCUSA, go back and read through everything you have typed and check that it makes sense and it is portraying you in a positive way. Ask someone to proof read your application for you.
  5. Be sure to answer all questions. Unanswered questions will delay consideration of your application.
  6. Always be honest. Don’t write down a skill if you have never done it before just because you like the sound of it! It will turn out to be a disaster at camp if you get chosen to teach it. Also, be honest with any medical information.
  7. Details, details, details! CCUSA and Camp Directors love hearing details.Try and give as much description as you can whenever you are asked.
  8. Don’t give one word answers for questions that require a detailed response.
  9. Your essay should be focused on your positive qualities and life experiences, why you love children and why you want to work at camp. Remember, a Camp Director will be reviewing many essays so make yours appropriate.
  10. Make sure your references know you well, and will give you a great recommendation! Please make sure they are easily contactable, and try and choose referees who can speak English. CCUSA or a Camp Director may call your references to ask further questions.
  11. Make sure your passport photo is one of you smiling! Camp Directors want happy, fun people to come and work at their camp and it makes a great first impression!
  12. Feel free to send in other pictures of you for us to add to your application or a one page photo collage of you participating in your favourite activities and/or interacting with children. Be sure to describe what is happening in the photos – please note: This is not compulsory and will not affect your application if you don’t!

If you spend time developing a thorough application it will demonstrate to CCUSA and Camp Directors that you are serious and excited about working at a summer camp in the USA. This excitement will translate into a great application and a better chance of a quick placement at a summer camp.

Happy Holidays from CCUSA Australia!

Merry Christmas from the Team at CCUSA! We hope you have an awesome holiday period!

Our offices will all be closed for the Christmas/New Year period from 2pm Friday 23rd December and reopen at 9am Tuesday 3rd January. We won’t be available on email during this time.

Why not start your application during the holidays?! Over the holiday break, we suggest you start reading up about Camp Job Fairs! This is a mandatory event for anyone who is accepted to the program without a camp placement (if you live out of State we have options for you). It is a fantastic opportunity for you to meet face to face with US Camp Representatives and secure a job. Please go to http://www.ccusa.com.au/MoreInformation/CampFairs.aspx to read all about the events. Then go to http://www.ccusa.com.au/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=w3gah_r-9xY%3d&tabid=710 to review and download the official CCUSA Camp Job Fair handbook. Start reading up on the camps that are coming, look at the ages they hire for, review their dates and positions and start researching so you have a good list of the ones you want to interview with.  Remember don’t just pin your hopes on one camp… make sure you look through all the camps!

Applications are still open for any of your friends who might want to apply. Make sure they apply now so they can attend the Camp Job Fairs!

 Happy Holidays!

The Team at CCUSA Australia

Random Update from the CCUSA Blog

The free information meetings have started across Australia and we’ve seen a lot of interest right across Australia from people attending these meetings and finding out more about working at summer camps in the USA & Canada or visiting our website and reviewing the programs online. That said, we did have a comment at our Perth meeting last night from a participant who had started an application already;

“I’m so glad I came tonight. The meeting was very informative and I’ll now go back into my application and make some changes. You explained things that I was unsure about and I now know I can add more information and additional camp types”

It just goes to show that although we do have all the info on our website it can still be very beneficial to come to one of our session in person and find out more. There are still more meetings for this month so visit the web site and attend if you can.

The CCUSA forum has also been moved to now be a part of the blog. You can access it by simply clicking on the forum tab at the top of the page. It’s brand new so there are very few posts but please feel free to do so. I have just made it open to anyone to post but to make it a little more personal, you may want to register. This will allow you to make your own comments and have your say.
