Working on your Summer Camp application these holidays? Here are 12 Handy Hints!
HANDY HINTS FOR YOUR CAMP COUNSELORS USA APPLICATION!
- Remember this is a job application, so use correct spelling, grammar, punctuation and even capital letters at the start of sentences.
- This is a detailed application and will take some time to fully complete. Remember that you can save what you have done and come back at any time to finish it.
- Don’t use slang or ‘text message’ style grammar, and only use the English language.
- Prior to submitting your application to CCUSA, go back and read through everything you have typed and check that it makes sense and it is portraying you in a positive way. Ask someone to proof read your application for you.
- Be sure to answer all questions. Unanswered questions will delay consideration of your application.
- Always be honest. Don’t write down a skill if you have never done it before just because you like the sound of it! It will turn out to be a disaster at camp if you get chosen to teach it. Also, be honest with any medical information.
- Details, details, details! CCUSA and Camp Directors love hearing details.Try and give as much description as you can whenever you are asked.
- Don’t give one word answers for questions that require a detailed response.
- Your essay should be focused on your positive qualities and life experiences, why you love children and why you want to work at camp. Remember, a Camp Director will be reviewing many essays so make yours appropriate.
- Make sure your references know you well, and will give you a great recommendation! Please make sure they are easily contactable, and try and choose referees who can speak English. CCUSA or a Camp Director may call your references to ask further questions.
- Make sure your passport photo is one of you smiling! Camp Directors want happy, fun people to come and work at their camp and it makes a great first impression!
- Feel free to send in other pictures of you for us to add to your application or a one page photo collage of you participating in your favourite activities and/or interacting with children. Be sure to describe what is happening in the photos – please note: This is not compulsory and will not affect your application if you don’t!
If you spend time developing a thorough application it will demonstrate to CCUSA and Camp Directors that you are serious and excited about working at a summer camp in the USA. This excitement will translate into a great application and a better chance of a quick placement at a summer camp.
